Fifth District 2015 Midyear Convocation
Dear Fifth Episcopal District Leadership:
Once again God blessed us with six wonderful Annual Conferences and one of
the largest attended Planning Meetings in years, and now we are celebrating a
new year. Traditionally, March has served the Fifth District well as a
time for our gathering to study God’s Word, dialogue with our peers, strategize
between the clergy and laity, revive ourselves spiritually; then report and
share our collective plans for the future. This March will continue in
that rich tradition as all roads are leading to our Midyear Convocation in Los
This Midyear Convocation will be hosted by Bethel AME Church, where the
Rev. Dr. Kelvin T. Calloway, Sr. serves as Pastor. The site of the Midyear
Convocation will be the Airport Hilton Hotel, located at 5711 West Century
Boulevard, Los Angeles. Our group name and code are: AME MIDYEAR
As usual, the Presiding Elders will report on Tuesday, March 10th at 4:00 pm.
However, starting early Wednesday, March 11th through the close on Friday, March
13th, 2015, I am expecting the entire Fifth District leadership and membership
to be present.
Our agenda includes a clergy/laity forum lead by Judge Patricia Mayberry, an
Episcopal candidate forum, an informal dialogue with Bishop Henning and myself,
along with interactive breakout sessions, and spirit-filled noon day and evening
The anointed preachers for our noon day services will be Rev. J. Edgar Boyd
(First, Los Angeles), Rev. Jarvis Collier (Pleasant Green Baptist Church), and
Presiding Elder Donna Roberson (Midwest North District). Reverend Johnny
Barbour (AMEC Sunday School Union) will preach our Opening Worship service
Wednesday night and Rev. Dr. Melvin Wade (Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Los
Angeles) will preach Thursday evening.
I am looking forward to greeting you all at Midyear. Until then,
continue to pray fervently that God will grace us with His presence, His Word
will go forth with power, and that His Kingdom will be advanced, all to His

October 6, 2014 St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church, 400 W. Spruce
Street, Olathe, Kansas held a Church Conference to discuss and make a decision
about the future of the church. By a unanimous vote of the membership, St. Paul
decided to close its doors.
Some of the reasons include, but are not limited to, a dwindling membership
and the inability to pay current financial obligations. St. Paul stood as the
only A.M.E. Church in Johnson County, the State of Kansas.
Please keep the former members of St. Paul in your prayers as they seek
another place to worship.

Thank you for being so diligent in keeping the Fifth Episcopal
District so informed. It means so much to be able to obtain inspiring,
informational and accurate data about our Zion at just the click of the

Thank you Celia for your words of encouragement! When I started building
Websites over twelve years ago, there were many people who could not see the
importance of having an Online presence. I learned how to build and maintain
Websites in order to reach beyone the walls of the local church into the
global community. It hasn't been easy and many times I have considered
giving up. I want you to know that people like you give me a reason to
continue. Once again, thank you Celia!

Rebuilding The Wall Brick By Brick
To Our Christian Friends:
We, the members of Mariah Walker AME Church are pleading for your prayers
and support as we are preparing to rebuild the wall of our church. As you
may know, we have not been able to worship at Mariah Walker due to this
damage. Mariah Walker has been our home for over 50 years and we want it to
be open another 50 years. Our goal is to raise $10,000.00 by the end of June
2014 with God’s help. We are workers together with him.
We would be grateful for any donations as we prepare to return home with
your help. Our situation should not change our praise and our praise can
certainly change our situation.
